The Kathleen Ferrier Competition 2021

66th Competition

Applications are now invited for the 2021 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

The competition is open to singers of any nationality who, on or before 1 February 2021, have completed at least one year of a continuous higher education course in music at a recognised conservatoire or music school in the United Kingdom (UK) or Republic of Ireland (RoI) or who have completed the equivalent year of continuous study in the UK or RoI with a recognised vocal coach; they must also have their main residence in the UK or RoI as at 1 February 2021, and applicants may be required to produce evidence to support this. For 2021 only there will be an exception for those singers who deferred their 2020 entry: they may be 29 or under by 23 April 2021, and the residency requirement will not apply to them.

An accompanist whose singer(s) reaches the semi-final or final rounds of the Competition will be eligible to compete for the Help Musicians Accompanist’s Prize if, as at 1 February 2021, they have their main residence in the UK and are 28 or under on 23 April 2021. Again for 2021 only there will be an exception for those accompanists who deferred their 2020 entry: they may be 29 or under by 23 April 2021, and the residency requirement will not apply to them.

As well as a first prize of £12,500 and a second prize of £6,000, there is the Ferrier Loveday Song Prize of £5,000 and Help Musicians Accompanist’s Prize of £5,000.

The 2021 Competition will start with preliminary auditions held between 5 to 14 March at the Henry Wood Hall, London SE1 4HU, followed by the Semi-final on the 20 April and Final on the 23 April, with both these events taking place before a public audience at Wigmore Hall, London W1U 2BP. Tickets will be on sale directly from the Wigmore Hall Box Office in due course.

The deadline for applications for the 2021 competition is 1 February 2021 for singers and 1 March 2021 for accompanists. Applications received after this date will not be considered.

Please note that all materials and entry fees for singers must be with the Administrator by 1 February 2021 otherwise entries will not be considered.

Accompanists who wish to be considered for the Help Musicians Accompanist’s Prize must submit all material by 1 March 2021 otherwise entries will not be considered.
